SKEPTOID BLOG:

Have You Seen This Peruvian "Flying Humanoid" Video?

Donate When I write about unidentified flying objects, I'm used to it being of the alien spacecraft variety. But apparently in Puerto Maldonado, Peru, there's another phenomenon making the rounds: an unidentified flying humanoid. This is revealed in a new video posted to YouTube last week by Dr. Anthony Choy, who bills himself as an investigative journalist and National Coordinator of the Peruvian Association of Ufology (APU) (though it seems like he is the sole face and voice of the org, as well). He claims this is part of a "phenomenon" of flying humanoids he's been researching since 2010.

First, let's roll that beautiful flying humanoid footage:

Well, that was certainly unimpressive. First, I wouldn't describe the object in the video as "humanoid" so much as "an oblong blob," despite Choy claiming that the original witness saw "a human form, with head, trunk, arms and legs." This may be due in part to the poor video quality, or perhaps the constant zooming in and out and blurring that occurs as a result. It's hard to focus on the object long enough to make out details.

Also, I wouldn't describe the object as "flying" so much as "floating". Nothing about the object's trajectory or behavior in the video displays any sort of deliberate propulsion or maneuvering; instead, if the shaking of the camera and the zooming in and out are accounted for, it really seems to do nothing more than float in the winds, riding the updraft and drifting into a cloud bank.

An amorphous blob that drifts lazily upward into a cloud bank? Sounds like some sort of balloon to me. I will even allow that it might have had a torso and limbs: maybe it was some escaped wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man. Just speculation, of course, but because we have zero confirming evidence and zero additional information to go on, can any of us really do more than speculate?

I was more interested in Choy's claim that flying humanoids over Peru was some sort of ongoing phenomenon since 2010. The English-language Internet, unfortunately, appears to be very unaware of flying Peruvian humanoids before now. Cryptozoology.com, in reporting on this, tried to tie this video to other reported "flying humanoids over the South American skies, " but even they could only come up with stories from Mexico (not South America), Dominican Republic (also not South America) and Argentina (actually South America, but taking place in 1972).

So much for flying Peruvian humanoids. This one feels safe to dismiss, unless some stunning unexplainable extra evidence surfaces. I, for one, won't be holding my breath.
