The Redstone Blob

Around the middle of last week, weather radars showed a mysterious blob of signal in the Tennessee Valley area over Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville Alabama. What made this blob interesting is that there was no weather event happening there. A curious thing, indeed, was it a UFO or evidence of some new government weapon?. Let’s take a quick look!

Here’s some reading for you, original reporting and other speculation:

The blob is certainly interesting. I would be quite intrigued if I saw such a thing on the weather radar without a storm or other obvious cause for the signal. Given that it is over a military installation, well, that just increases the interest.

Happily, the explanation for this one is short and sweet. Fiberglass radar chaff was deployed, one presumes for testing or exercises, which was treated to present a high radar reflectivity. The last article in the list above goes into more detail with photos of the chaff found in the area.

We may never know exactly why the chaff was deployed, maybe to hide PRISM, but we do know it wasn’t aliens. Though, I don’t rule out a pop-up thunderstorm. It’s that time of year.

Be well.
